Its with the greatest of excitement that I write with the FINISHED copy of my book sitting here on my desk! On the 21st of August, 'On The Trail of Genghis Khan: An Epic Journey Through the Land of the Nomads' was released by Bloomsbury in Australia, in time for Father's day. This represents the completion of a 10 year project. From 2004-2007 I rode horses from Mongolia to Hungary. From the beginning of 2009, after being lucky to get a contract with Bloomsbury in New York, until February 2012, I worked on the first draft of my manuscript - a whopping 1,000 pages, and 270,000 words. In the past 12 months, I have completed another 4-5 drafts, and in April handed in the final edit.
I am very happy with the way the book has been produced. In the end it is 520 pages, with 24 pages of color photos, and a series of detailed maps created by cartographer extraordinaire, Will Pringle. My editor, Anton Mueller really lay down the gauntlet for me to write as best as I could in a more thematic way than I had written in the past. I feel like I have been given an opportunity to grow and learn through this experience that has opened my mind to new horizons.
You can now buy the book in all good stores. I also have around 100 autographed books remaining - so if you are quick and order within the next couple of weeks you will be guaranteed of a signed copy.
As of tomorrow I will be on the road for a series of special events in Australia and New Zealand, supported by Bloomsbury, World Expeditions, and Mountain Designs. I am really thrilled to announce that at many events (Sydney, Wollongong, Canberra), I will be joined by Buhkhu - a renowned Mongolian throat singer and horse-head fiddle player. I will also be joined at some events (Canberra, Albury-Wodonga, Melbourne, Warragul), by Amra Otgeril for traditional Mongolian dance performance.
At all events - during which I will be using behind the scenes footage and images to retell the story of my journey and the history of the nomads of the steppe - there will be door prizes, and a special appearance by my four legged friend from Kazakhstan, as well as book signing. Please check the details below for booking and pass on the details to whoever may be interested. Book early to ensure a seat as seating is very limited and they are selling fast.
