A Merry Book Launch!

Launch Chris & Tim celebrate at the launch! On Tuesday, 1st of April everything came together for the book launch of Off the Rails. With Chris, his Mum, and wife Nat coming down from Canberra and around 100 other guests the celebration was enjoyed by many.....helped on by a few glasses of wine and some great food. Eric Phillips -polar explorer- gave an animated introduction to the pair of young adventurers delving into some of the details of Chris & Tim's observations and experiences. In particular he was fascinated by Chris' humorous description of Tim escaping the onslaught of Siberian mosquitoes, and their constant run ins with vodka. The event was run at the Travellers Bookstore (smith st Collingwood), so many thanks to Susan who helped immeasurably to get the whole project under way. For Tim and Chris it was a special occasion for some closure on a journey that began way back in 1999 when Chris first suggested the idea- at that stage it was to ride horses from London to Beijing. Thanks to all who attended including our lovely publisher Julie Watts, and stoic editor, Dmetri Kakmi (Dmetri especially has been through as much in the past year as Chris and Tim have. Dmetri's patience, understanding and enthusiasm have helped immeasurably in getting the book underway). Thanks also to our families and sponsors without whom it would never have happened. For all those interested, a shop display with bike, Siberian artefacts and a host of photos will be open to the public at the Travellers bookstore (294 Smith St) until the end of April. The book is now available in bookstores throughout Australia. For Tim and Chris, well suddenly they are freed from a dream and can move onto the next adventure.....
